As part of CHP’s commitment to a greener NHS, we have been working on recycling initiatives. In April 2021, we changed our confidential waste supplier in 68 buildings across our portfolio. Restore Datashred recycle our confidential paper waste bringing environmental benefits. Since April we have saved 293m3 from landfill, saved over 2,000 trees from felling for paper production and reduced our carbon footprint by 76,288.20kg CO2.
Foleshill Health Centre, the UK’s first Passivhaus healthcare building, won ‘Best Carbon Reduction Initiative’ at the Building Better Healthcare Awards. The judges were looking for projects helping to reduce carbon and energy use featuring energy-efficient heating, lighting, and other sustainable innovations, as well as green transport initiatives.

NHS England has unveiled a new photography exhibition, “Care for the future: delivering the world’s first net zero health service,” at COP26 in Glasgow. Dr Mesbahuddin Syeed, a GP at Foleshill Health Centre, in Coventry features in this exhibition because he is based at the first Passivhaus health care building in the UK.
During COP26 CHP will be focusing on some of the things we are already doing to improve our green credentials and highlighting some key facts about the NHS and sustainability. One year on from the NHS becoming the world’s first health service to commit to reaching net zero carbon.
