CHP colleagues give back to their communities

During the first half of this financial year, over 30 colleagues have actively participated in Community Health Partnerships (CHP) Volunteering Programme. Since April 2025, they’ve collectively contributed an impressive 189 hours of volunteering service, giving back to their communities and supporting causes close to their hearts.

Volunteering activities ranged from supporting community gardens, coffee mornings for causes such as MacMillan, VE day and Dementia UK, to clearing water ways alongside the Canal and Rivers Trust.

This year also marks the second anniversary of CHP’s volunteering policy, and we are incredibly proud of how our employees have embraced it. Since its launch, over 40% of our workforce has dedicated almost 1,350 hours to volunteering.

Our Employee Volunteering Policy is a key part of CHP’s strategy to put our Buildings at the heart of the Community, with LIFT facilities providing not just health services but also health and wellbeing initiatives, all of which directly contributes to our Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Examples from 2025-2026 so far

Graeme Briscoe, an Operations and Relationship Manager in the North West, recently dedicated one of his volunteering days to attend a volunteer training session at the Alder Centre, located within Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
Operations and Relationship Manager, Carol Jones, took part in her first volunteering event with the Canal & River Trust, spending time helping to clean up the Calder & Hebble Navigation and River Calder just outside Wakefield.

Buildings at the Heart of the Community

CHP buildings are designed to be hubs in the heart of their communities, providing support, community engagement as well as healthcare provision.

A recent reconfiguration at Stapleford Care Centre, Midlands enabled a new, modern and safe Community Hub to support local groups and charities in delivering sessions within the area. The space is designed to provide peer support groups, and drop-ins for residents who would benefit from non-clinical support such as social connection, physical activity, or help with the wider determinants of health.

CHP’s Buildings at the Heart of the community initiative continues to encourage local community groups and charities to make the most of our buildings by enabling the use of space in our centres to host health and wellbeing related events.

At CHP, we’re committed to supporting the wellbeing of our staff while also recognising the value of giving back to others and the communities we serve. Our volunteering leave empowers employees to contribute time to causes they care about or to make a meaningful impact in the wider community.

After joining CHP, I was really pleased to learn about how supportive the organisation is to volunteering. It’s really refreshing to see and the value that it gives back can’t be measured.

It is great for the tenants to see someone from CHP working with their groups and getting 'stuck in' with volunteering. I believe it shows we really care. It was great meeting the guys and chatting, and their suggestions on how they can 'grow' the garden in the future was nice to hear. I have said I'll help out where I can both inside and outside work.

What a great opportunity to create an amazing spaces for both staff and patients. One conversation and everything happened quickly, I applied for the Green fund then everything arrived. What is even better is seeing how gardens developing now with additions being added to all the time. It has been really rewarding to know that a little input from me through volunteering has a really positive impact.
