CHP hosts successful Greater Manchester neighbourhood delivery workshop

CHP successfully hosted a recent Greater Manchester wide workshop examining how effective use of estate can best support the left shift of services into neighbourhoods.

A group of  clinical leaders supported by key NHS senior management met in Oldham to share good practice and discuss challenges and opportunities as we await the launch of the Government’s 10-year plan for the NHS.

Partners from across disciplines, including clinical, finance, commissioners, providers, estates and a range of organisations, including national policy organisation the NHS Confederation, all attended to share.

The success of the Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre in Hull and how it has brought services together in the local community to support older people was a highlight; and Confed representatives Antony Tucker. Policy and Engagement Advisor, Out of Hospital Care, and Calum Meakin, Confed Policy and Delivery Manager for Primary Care, outlined the implications of the expected ongoing commitment to shift services into local communities and how we can both maximise and measure the impact.

CHP NW Regional Director Jeanette Leach and National Strategic Productivity Partner Mike Simpson organised and delivered the day, which was chaired by Dr  Mohan Kumar, Clinical System Lead for Estates (GMICS) and sponsored by LIFT Company Community 1st.

This workshop was a great opportunity to share learning and ideas across Greater Manchester leaders and to discuss how to optimise the current estate, including how services can be quickly and effectively be moved into the neighbourhood-based high-quality LIFT estate.

Dr Mohan welcomed the opportunity to work across Greater Manchester’s organisations and ensure that buildings were used for patient benefit.

An insightful and energising day, filled with listening, learning and connecting with partners across Greater Manchester

She shared the systems and approach implemented in Oldham and said she is “always happy to engage across localities and ensure we progress together towards a strategic, clinically-led future’.

Some of the key messages which emerged included:

  • Make sure all the key stakeholders are at the table – clinical, financial, commissioner, providers, estates.
  • Gather and use all relevant and up-to-date data
  • Be prepared to think differently and develop different delivery models.
