We are proud to launch our Green Plan 2026–2029 Driving a Sustainable Future (PDF) building on the success of our first Green Plan in 2022, and continuing our journey to support the NHS’s Net Zero Carbon commitment.
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our generation. With approximately 5% of the NHS property portfolio, CHP plays a key role in creating sustainable, fit-for-purpose healthcare facilities that improve patient care while reducing environmental impact.
What’s in the CHP Green Plan
- Securing the Future: Preparing for lease expiries and ensuring a sustainable estate.
- Energy Efficiency: Reducing energy demand, optimising building and plant performance, identifying opportunities and investing in renewable energy generation and low carbon technologies.
- Biodiversity and Green Space: Enhancing outdoor spaces to support wellbeing, climate resilience and improve air quality. Creating healthier environments for communities.
- Waste, Travel and Procurement: Driving sustainable practices across operations and through CHP contracts.
- Climate Adaptation: Preparing for the impacts of extreme weather.
CHP’s first Green Plan 2022-25 helped cut emissions by 27% across corporate activity and 46% across the LIFT estate. This new plan focuses on collaboration, continuing to embed sustainability as business as usual, improving estate efficiency, and using data and digital tools to drive change.
What this means for our tenants:
- Improved working environments for staff
- Delivering value for money through efficient, optimised estate.
- Support for Greener NHS priorities and meeting Net zero commitments
- Enhanced granularity and accuracy of data and reporting. Allowing for targeted, proactive energy management.
Our new Green Plan 2026-2029 strengthens CHP’s commitment to building a greener, more resilient healthcare estate that supports the NHS journey to net zero. With over 300 buildings, we play a vital role in reducing emissions and creating healthier environments for patients, staff and communities. We’re proud of the progress already made and will keep working with our LIFTCo partners and tenants to improve energy efficiency, enhance biodiversity, and embed sustainability across everything we do at CHP.
