Financial close was reached this week on significant variation works at St Peter’s Health Centre, Burnley, which will integrate, improve and expand health and wellbeing service delivery in the community.
A total investment of £3.2m, funded by CHP, will rework upper floor space within the 7 storey building to provide more services within the community, closer to home, for those who need it most.
The work is in partnership with NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), and the Eric Wright Group.
The changes will support the drive to prevent ill health by providing services out of hospital and will reduce pressure on services at Burnley General and Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospitals.
The building currently hosts a broad range of services including general practice, community audiology, breast services, CAMHS, diagnostics, ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology and rheumatology. The variation will add extra space for musculoskeletal, mental health and general practice services.
St Peter’s Primary Health Care Centre is a project that has been long in the making, and we are proud that this variation will now take place. Reconfiguring the upper floors of the building will create a more productive environment and help deliver services for the neighbourhoods surrounding Burnley in a central location. We will continue to work with our partners to support the Government’s neighbourhood health agenda and use creative thinking to help bring services out of hospital and into the community.
Jeanette Leach, Regional Director - North West, Community Health Partnerships
Eric Wright Partnerships and One Partnership (LIFTCo) have been working collaboratively with CHP and Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB to progress the development of the variation works at St Peter’s and are pleased that, with our partners, we have been able to reach Financial Close and start work on this scheme. We look forward to seeing the many benefits it will bring to the local community and neighbourhood.
Dan Stevenson-Lenard, Senior Consultant (Estates Strategy & Asset Management), Eric Wright Group
NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB are really pleased that these reconfiguration works are underway. This will enable underused spaces to be brought back into use for a number of different organisations, to provide an increasing range of care and support services to local residents. The delivery of the NHS 10 year plan requires good quality and well located facilities like St Peters to achieve its intentions, and this redevelopment project is the first of several over the coming years for Lancashire and South Cumbria residents.
Alistair Rose, Director of Strategic Estates, Infrastructure and Sustainability, NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board
CHP buildings are designed to be hubs within the neighbourhood they represent, and this space will add a modern, private and accessible space for those who use St Peter’s Health Centre. The building is in the centre of the town, offering a space for access to healthcare in a community location supporting the Government’s left shift agenda to provide more services in neighbourhoods.
