On Tuesday 24 March 2026, Community Health Partnerships (CHP), opened two reconfigured floors, representing a £2.2 million investment, funded by the organisation, alongside system colleagues.
Working closely with partners including NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), OCS, Greater Nottingham LIFTCo, and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The redesign has transformed the upper floors of Stapleford Care Centre into a more flexible and better utilised hub in the heart of its neighbourhood. The project has brought underused space back into productive use, increasing clinical capacity and strengthening the building’s role at the heart of local neighbourhood healthcare.
On the day, colleagues from each organisation were represented and Julian Humphreys, Programme Manager at Community Health Partnerships and John Baldock from Greater Nottingham LIFTCo, spoke about the new hubs contribution to adding services within an area of need.
Stapleford Care Centre was built in 2004 under the NHS LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) Programme and provides a range of health and social care services in one state-of-the-art building, including two GP surgeries, children’s services, podiatry, artificial eye clinics and more.
Large areas of underused space on the first and second floors have been remodelled to create new clinical accommodation, including additional treatment rooms, patient waiting areas, interview and meeting spaces, and improved support areas. The redesign has added seven new clinical rooms, enabling a wider range of services to operate closer to residents’ homes.
This variation aligns with CHP’s wider strategy to improve utilisation across the estate and ensure that buildings are delivering maximum value for local populations. By relocating services into refurbished space on the second floor, the project has created a more coherent, efficient layout that improves patient flow and enhances the staff experience across the whole centre.
Supporting the Government’s Neighbourhood Health Plan
The Stapleford project reflects the direction set out in the UK Government’s newly published Neighbourhood Health Framework, which forms a central pillar of the national 10 Year Health Plan for England. The Framework outlines a vision for a new Neighbourhood Health Service that brings care closer to where people live, shifts activity out of hospital and focuses on prevention, early intervention and integrated working across NHS, local government and community partners.
The Government emphasises the need for local systems to “achieve the left shift from hospital to community” and deliver services in settings that are convenient, accessible and responsive to local needs. Stapleford Care Centre is well positioned to embody this vision. By converting space into high quality clinical accommodation, the building will enable community-based teams to work together and deliver a broader range of services under one roof. This not only improves access for local patients but supports the wider shift towards proactive, preventative and place based care, as outlined in the national plan.
A Future Focused Asset
The remodel also supports Greener NHS principles by improving the use of the existing estate and enabling a greater concentration of services on a single site. Co-locating care reduces the need for travel between sites, helping lower carbon emissions while improving patient convenience.
CHP’s regional leadership has emphasised the strategic importance of the scheme, noting that it will help move the building from a flex position to a core healthcare asset within the LIFT estate.
Through this project, CHP and the ICB are working collaboratively to ensure Stapleford Care Centre evolves into a modern neighbourhood health hub aligned with both local system priorities and the Government’s national ambitions. By unlocking additional clinical capacity within the existing building, the redevelopment will help deliver care closer to home, support integrated community based teams, and strengthen the long term sustainability of local health services.
The investment at Stapleford Care Centre shows another strong example of partnership working, unlocking the potential of the LIFT estate. By transforming underused space into high quality clinical environments, we are creating a more flexible, accessible health hubs that meet the needs of local communities. This project aligns closely with the Government’s ambitions for more neighbourhood health services, supporting the shift away from hospital based care and enabling more care to be delivered in the community, closer to home. I’m proud of the collaborative approach taken by CHP, the NHS and our local LIFTCo partners demonstrating how we can improve our buildings to better serve the local community for many years to come.
James Weaver, Regional Director - Midlands, Community Health Partnerships
This investment at Stapleford Care Centre represents a significant step forward in strengthening accessible, high‑quality care for our communities. By transforming previously underused areas into modern, flexible clinical spaces, we are ensuring that local services can grow sustainably within the existing estate, providing improved and more convenient access to healthcare for our patients. The redesign supports the ambitions of the Neighbourhood Health Framework by enabling more care to be delivered closer to home, improving patient flow, and providing better working environments for our clinical teams. This project demonstrates what can be achieved when system partners work together with a shared commitment to making the very best use of our NHS estate for the benefit of the local community
