Continuing to improve accessibility across CHP sites

Home / Continuing to improve accessibility across CHP sites

Earlier in the year, Community Health Partnerships (CHP) launched Detailed Access Guides available for all sites across the CHP estate. This piece of work is part of a wider initiative working to ensure CHP sites accommodate for every individual and is inclusive for all who work and visit.

By working with AccessAble, the UK’s leading provider of detailed disabled-access information, we were able to produce over 300 guides which can be downloaded through CHP’s website. We also worked with a team of Disability Ambassadors, which enabled us to hear first-hand the everyday struggles of individuals who require additional access needs when visiting somewhere new. You can hear more from the ambassadors themselves here through a series of stop-motion animations.

Since launching in February 2022, there have been over 10,000 users who have accessed a disability guide and the Community Health Partnerships AccessAble webpage itself has been viewed over 18,000 times.

Alongside the access guides, the team at AccessAble also surveyed all CHP sites and produced a Best Practice Guide for each site which highlighted other areas in which accessibility can be improved.

Over the next few months, we will be working our way through the Practice Guides and adopting the suggestions to improve accessibility. Some of these changes will include structural as well as permanent fixtures amongst others.

Coming out of the Practice Guides included some quick win recommendations including:

  • Additional seating across sites: including installing seats with arm rests, which will aid individuals in wheelchairs or those who require additional help in standing up.
  • Hearing loops: installing hearing loops at main reception desks
  • Accessible toilet signage: installing signage with revised wording to reflect not every disability is visible.

With the help and support from our Operations and Relationship Managers, we have started to implement these recommendations across our sites, to date there are:
