Community Health Partnerships (CHP) has been appointed to lead a national estates programme being undertaken by NHS England in order to learn more about GP premises.
The Primary Care Data Gathering Programme is intended to bring the information held on general practice premises in England up to a consistent baseline standard nationally. It will provide both Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and Primary Care Networks (PCNs) with the tools to support local planning and decision making, and present the data considered key to evidencing and identifying areas of need, opportunities for investment, and demonstrating cases for change. The majority of programme information will be collected at desktop level, with central resource provided to ensure minimal disruption to day-to-day business for GPs.
All data collated as part of this programme will be published on SHAPE (Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation), the web enabled application that links national public health, primary care and demographic data with information on healthcare estates performance and facilities location. Data will not be publicly available and only accessible to and between those having relevant permissions enabled, with this requiring Data Sharing Agreements being entered into in some cases.
Primary Care Data Gathering Programme progress
CHP, supported by its LIFT partners, has been working with all 42 Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs), Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and CCGs to collate any existing, relevant estates and operational data held regionally.
The programme is now at the stage of exhausting these data sets, and as such, will be carrying out engagement with practices throughout the remainder of 2021 to complete the gaps remaining in this data set. Communication regarding the delivery of this programme, including timescales, will be directly issued to practices from their relevant CCG.
In addition, three facet surveys will be conducted on GP practice premises where existing information isn’t held, however, this element is currently on hold and further information will be available towards the summer.
CHP Estate
In its role as Head Tenant of 309 LIFT buildings, CHP has provided property, occupancy, condition and compliance data for its estate to support the formation of this data set; it does not include any identifiable staff or patient data.

This will assist key decision makers including Primary Care Networks to make informed decisions for the future of healthcare within their local premises.”
