CHP meets new NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness

CHP has met new Healthcare Cleanliness standards from May 2022 for most of our buildings, six months ahead of the formal deadline of November 2022 and we are now finalising final implementation for all other sites.

This involved working closely with all 11 of our current cleaning contractors across 265 premises nationally and engaging with tenants on their aspects of the standards that are unique to individual requirements.  It has been a substantial piece of work, which our contracts team have successfully completed at no additional cost to the NHS.

The process began six months ago with joint training sessions between the CHP Contracts team and our cleaning contractors to ensure full understanding of the new standards on both sides. Cleaning processes and methodologies were reviewed, and training delivered to Domestics by cleaning contractors. Formal documents such as cleaning charters, audit forms and cleaning schedules were revised and amended to reflect new requirements and frequencies.

New auditing processes have been created, and training delivered to CHP Soft Services Auditors. Functional Risk (FR) Ratings were assigned to all rooms in our buildings in accordance with the new standards. A gap analysis was carried out to identify differences between the old and new standards.

A new CHP Cleaning Policy is in place and has been circulated to all buildings, encompassing new standards and CHP commitment to Healthcare Cleanliness.

Andrew Meakin Contracts & Operations Director at Community Health Partnerships said: “Following the release of the new National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021 by NHS England/Improvement (NHSE/I) earlier in the year, the CHP Contracts team set in motion a plan to implement the new standards by the deadline of November 2022. This involved working closely with all 11 of our current cleaning contractors across 265 premises nationally.

“We planned a 3-phase approach to ensure compliancy with mandatory requirements across the portfolio in a consistent manner, before engaging with tenants around more personal aspects of the standards that are unique to individual requirements.

“We hope these new cleaning standards help deliver a high standard of care across our portfolio. I’d like to extend a big thank you to all involved for their hard work in achieving this.”
