Home / MP visits Nelson Health Centre
Stephen Hammond MP for Wimbledon visited the Nelson Health Centre to view the wide range of health and social care facilities available to local residents and to hear how CHP and Fulcrum are utilising the building to help the wider community, including the successful partnership with AFC Wimbledon.
The Nelson Health Centre in Kingston Road, Wimbledon, plays a vital role in supporting community health with facilities including GP surgeries; mental health services; minor surgery facilities; support services for older people; and a range of specialist outpatient clinics. The centre also provided Covid testing and vaccination facilities and now, with pandemic restrictions easing, a number of existing services are now returning to The Nelson, together with new health and social care services for residents to access.
On the day of the visit, Mr Hammond was taken around the building by Fulcrum CEO Sarah Beaumont-Smith, CHP Senior Operations and Relationship Manager, Erwin Jonathan, and Malcolm Twite, Executive Director of Property and Operations. He also met key members of staff from a range of key services, including The Nelson Medical Practice, the Holistic Assessment and Rapid Investigation (HARI) service, and services provided at The Nelson by St George’s Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Nelson Centre Christmas Fayre 2022
The Nelson’s annual Christmas Fayre was taking place on the same day which included stalls from local initiatives and traders, enabling Mr Hammond to see first hand some of the work of the local community. Malcolm Twite, Executive Director of Property and Operations at CHP commented: “It was excellent to welcome Stephen to the Nelson and show him around the building and how the primary care estate can shape primary care delivery in the future. “Across our estate, we are always looking to be innovative within our buildings, for example, Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre in Hull where we have worked closely with clinicians on what they need from their space.”
The Nelson Health Centre was built by South West London Health and Care Partnership which brings together healthcare investor Fulcrum working closely with Community Health Partnerships, a key part of the NHS family.
Fulcrum CEO Sarah Beaumont-Smith said: “At such an important time for community health, it was great to welcome Stephen Hammond MP to The Nelson and to showcase what a vital role it plays in supporting the health and well-being of residents across Merton. With a wide range of health and social care services all under one roof, The Nelson underlines the huge value of investing in quality Primary Care facilities in the heart of the community.”
