The Darnall Primary Care Centre (PCC) in Sheffield will soon be the new home for the York Road branch of Baslow Road, Shoreham Street & York Road Surgeries (BSY), following partnership work led by Community Health Partnerships to improve the use of the building. Work began on 1 March for the internal reconfiguration and will be complete in late April 2021. The GP surgery now renamed Darnall Hall began seeing patients in their new premises in May 2021.
The York Road branch of BSY surgeries is currently operating from cramped accommodation. The new space at Darnall PPC for the York Road team is much larger than their current premises. There will be four consultation rooms, a minor procedure room and a treatment room. In addition to a newly created reception area, there will also be more office space for the surgery team. Moving into Darnall PPC will give a marked improvement in the environment for the patients and staff of the York Road Surgery.
This variation, costing nearly £170k, was requested by Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), in line with its policy of improving utilisation of the existing local healthcare estate. CHP worked with our partners at Community 1st Sheffield LIFTCo, Equity Solutions and Carveti Consulting Limited (CCL) to reach variation close on 6 January 2021.

Sandie Buchan, Director of Commissioning Development at NHS Sheffield CCG, said: “NHS Sheffield CCG was happy to explore and support the request when York Road Surgery made enquiries about relocating in Darnall PCC. LIFT buildings are configured and maintained to a very high standard therefore bringing improved and sustainable healthcare to its patients. As part of the Primary Care Strategy, our strategic aims are to have improved access to patient care, bring care closer to home, whilst improving quality and equality of healthcare in Sheffield.”
The Darnall PPC will remain open during the work. A new, temporary access to the building will be in place to accommodate the internal reconfiguration and hoardings to maintain safety.
