Residents of Stapleford and surrounding neighbourhoods will now benefit from an upgraded community hub following the completion of works at Stapleford Care Centre.
The completion of the Stapleford Hub at Stapleford Care Centre was marked by an official opening on Wednesday 23 July, with colleagues from Community Health Partnerships (CHP), Greater Nottingham LIFTCo, FES, NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Broxtowe Borough Council.
The £490k CHP-funded project supports the Government’s key NHS missions, and recently published 10 Year Health Plan, in the shift of more localised care, including bringing together community and voluntary services with healthcare provisions within neighbourhoods. The new space, remodelled in lieu of an unused café area, offers a much-needed community suite that can be used for meetings, training courses and community events.
Stapleford Care Centre was built in 2004 under the NHS LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) Programme and provides a range of health and social care services in one state-of-the-art building, including two GP surgeries, children’s services, podiatry, artificial eye clinics and more. Whilst the new hub will provide additional space for the community, there will be further remodelling within the four-storey building with the first and second floors being reconfigured to provide extra space for tenants within the neighbourhood. It is also hoped this development will make Stapleford Care Centre fully utilised.
The new Stapleford Hub will be used to support the work of the local primary care network offering social prescribing, care coordinators and health and wellbeing coaches. It will host health promotion sessions, peer support groups, and drop-ins for residents who would benefit from non-clinical support such as social connection, physical activity, or help with the wider determinants of health.
Through partnership working between CHP, Greater Nottingham LIFTCo, FES and NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, who manage the main reception and bookable space within the building, the ground floor has been transformed into a real community asset providing a space for free and invaluable advice and information to support staff, patients and local residents.
It was fantastic to be at the opening of the new Community Hub at Stapleford. Through collaborative working within the local health system, this modernised space will offer a great place for community services and groups to meet and work from. Local neighbourhoods are at the heart of what we do at CHP, and it is a pleasure to see the new Hub operational.
Julian Humphreys, Programme Manager, Community Health Partnerships
I am delighted to be handing over the Stapleford Community Hub, it’s been a fantastic project to be involved with alongside CHP and the LIFTCo. The Hub is now a great place for the community to meet in place of the old café area. The community can now come together and congregate as one within the heart of the neighbourhood.
Steve Sharkey, Project Manager, FES
CHP’s Development and Property and Operations teams have been integral throughout the project, providing design and planning expertise, project management and working with tenants and partners to ensure services were not disrupted during the renovations.
The community hub at Stapleford Care Centre reinforces the importance of LIFT assets in supporting local communities with general health and wellbeing, but also providing convenient access to health services, all under one roof within a neighbourhood facility.
The Stapleford Hub is a great opportunity not just for the people of the town but further afield as well. It is a safe environment, in a great location, for example, the bus stop is outside of the building. There is a lot social isolation in our neighbourhood, and people do not know where to go. This community space opens up a place for people to meet. Thank you to CHP, the ICB and the NHS trust for the time and effort they’ve put into getting this right.
Councillor Richard MacRae, Broxtowe Borough Council
We are delighted to open the Stapleford Community Hub alongside CHP and our LIFTCo partners. Funding the running costs of the building, we are excited to make sure this space is being put to good use, supporting patients, staff and the wider community. The space will be available for local voluntary and community organisations to book, which aligns with our commitment to deliver health and wellbeing initiatives closer to home in the heart of the community.
Amanda Sullivan, Chief Executive, NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB
