Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) – Analogue Phone Line Switch Off

As CHP Tenants may already be aware, the national switch-off of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), commonly known as analogue phone lines, is scheduled to take place 31 January 2027. However, Openreach, and industry best practice, strongly recommend that organisations complete their transition to digital phone lines by December 2025 to avoid any disruption to services.

This change affects more than just traditional telephony. A wide range of services you may not realise also rely on analogue phone lines. These include:

  • Alarm systems
  • EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) machines
  • Door entry systems
  • CCTV
  • Fax machines
  • Other legacy devices
  • Some WiFi or broadband connections can also be dependent on an analogue phone line

We would like to remind any CHP Tenants that if you are responsible for a privately arranged service within a CHP building, that still uses an analogue phone line, that action is needed. If these services are not migrated in time, services may cease to function properly, potentially impacting your operations.

What you need to do:

If you have not already done so, please review any private analogue phone lines or connected services you manage and plan your switch to a digital alternative.

Thank you for your support as we prepare for this important change. Additional information can be found on BT’s website.
