As Recycle Week 2026 (14-20 September) highlights the importance of reducing waste and recycling more effectively, Community Health Partnerships (CHP) is celebrating progress across its NHS LIFT healthcare estate, while improving the health of communities and protecting the environment for future generations.
Sustainability sits at the heart of CHP’s Green Plan 2026-29: Driving a Sustainable Future, which supports NHS Net Zero ambitions through partnership with tenants, staff, patients and visitors. A key recent achievement has been exceeding the Government’s offensive waste segregation target. In July 2026, CHP achieved a national performance rate of 63.08%, surpassing the 60% target.
Across 308 healthcare buildings, CHP supports recycling for paper, cardboard, plastics, metals and glass, while many centres also promote reuse of furniture, textiles, and NHS walking aids to keep resources in use for longer. CHP is continuing to increase recycling rates across all types of recyclable waste, supporting more consistent waste management, and reducing environmental impact and costs.
Recycle Week is a timely reminder that sustainability is shaped by the choices we make every day. Through our 'Green Plan 2026-29: Driving a Sustainable Future', CHP is committed to improving waste segregation, increasing recycling rates and reusing materials wherever possible, helping to reduce environmental impact, lower costs for tenants and support a Greener NHS for patients, staff and communities.

Recycle Week is a reminder that small actions make a big difference. By recycling correctly, reducing waste and reusing materials wherever possible, we can all help build a Greener NHS.
