Westbourne Green CHCC hosts awareness day to support cancer prevention in Bradford

The team at Community Health Partnerships (CHP) recently supported a successful One Big Cancer Awareness and Advice Day at Westbourne Green Community Health Care Centre in Bradford.  The event, held annually, was organised by The Lister Surgery and The City Medical Practice GP teams and saw over 70 members of the public receive information on cancer prevention, screening, and local support services.

Held in late October 2025, the advice day was a great success, demonstrating a strong collaborative commitment to preventative health measures and reducing health inequalities across the neighbourhood. For CHP, supporting this event aligns with our mission to ensure local communities have access to health advice in high quality, accessible LIFT buildings, supporting the NHS 10-year plan’s focus on prevention.

The event brought together specialist clinical teams and key charitable organisations to provide comprehensive advice for attendees on cancer risks and early detection. Activities included:

  • Advice on national cancer screening programmes (bowel, breast, and cervical).
  • Information on lifestyle factors affecting cancer risk, such as diet, exercise, and smoking.
  • Advice on access to emotional and practical support from local groups for people living with or affected by cancer.

A Breast Screening mobile unit will be operating from Westbourne Green HCC from 4 December 2025 to 31 May 2026, provided by Pennine Breast Imaging team at St Luke’s Hospital (www.bradfordhospitals.nhs.uk/pennine-breast-services), part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

These health promotion events are incredibly important to our local communities, as they really do lead to early diagnosis and secure significantly better outcomes for patients. We are proud that the LIFT estate provides the accessible, modern spaces required to host these important preventative care initiatives.

CHP’s Buildings at the Heart of the Community initiative

CHP’s Buildings at the Heart of the Community initiative is a key driver in maximising the social value of our healthcare estate. We achieve this by actively encouraging clinical teams, local community groups, and charities to use the centres for health and wellbeing events, directly supporting the NHS 10 Year Plan’s focus on prevention.

CHP’s commitment to supporting activities has led to 127 community and pop-up events being hosted in the North East and Yorkshire region to date this year, contributing to a national total of over 965 events and demonstrating our strong preventative care engagement and commitment to Social Value.
